FiRP Reinforced Tension Laminations

FiRP® Reinforced tension laminations can be used to retrofit an under designed, cracked, or decaying glulam or solid sawn member in bending.

Installation

The FiRP® Reinforced tension lamination is installed into the existing main member with epoxy and lag screws.

The epoxy and lag screws provide two methods for transferring stresses between the main member and the reinforced tension lamination.

The first picture was taken during a church restoration; the second picture under a bridge.

Testing

Retrofit testing was initially performed at the Wood Science & Technology Institute to verify the calculation method and to ensure proper degrees of safety.

On-going R&D on this topic is now performed in the laboratory of Wood Research & Development
